This BBMP Elections over 16 Muslim Corporators have comeout Victorious in the 198 member Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.While 12 winning corporators belong to Congress party, 3 are from Janata Dal Secular and one from SDPI(Socialist Democratic Party of India), in previous elections held in 2010 BBMP had about 13 muslim corporators, while this is better and small improvement but still not adequate considering Bangalore has over 20% muslim population and an apt number would be 35 to 40 corporators. The BJP has emerged the frontrunner to rule the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), emerging victorious in 100 wards of the civic body.
While BJP won in 100 wards, the Congress grabbed 75 council seats. JD-S has won 14 and independent candidates have taken eight wards.
Voting for BBMP council polls was held on Saturday in 197 of the 198 wards. Although 7.4 million (73,88,526) voters had registered to exercise their franchise, only 49% of them had turned out.
